Shape Process Automation EMEA is seeking a skilled and motivated Field Service Engineer to join our European team. For this position you need to be located in Midlands, Staffordshire; UK. Our European headquarters are in Karlshamn, Sweden, where approximately 130 employees work with customized automation solutions. Within our aftermarket department, we have two dedicated service teams—one focused on UHP waterjet cutting systems and the other supporting various automation systems across Sweden and internationally.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Field Service Engineer at SPA, you’ll play a key role in delivering and supporting high-performance robotic UHP waterjet systems to customers located across the UK and globally.

The role includes turn-key system installation and commissioning, implementing service contracts, upgrades, retrofits, on-site and remote troubleshooting, and supporting our project managers, sales, and AM team with technical assistance and customer inquiries.

Robot programming and software/path changes using both offline and online methods, providing training to customers, and identifying sales opportunities for additional systems or services are also among your responsibilities.

Regular travel to customer sites in the UK and abroad is required.

This role demands strong technical expertise, adaptability, and a customer-focused mindset. You’ll be the face of SPA’s aftermarket service—ensuring our systems are running smoothly and efficiently for our customers.

 Location

Midlands, Staffordshire area.

Home-based with travel.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

We’re looking for someone with a solid technical foundation and hands-on experience in automation. You should hold an HNC/HND or equivalent in an electrical discipline, ideally complemented by a degree in a relevant technical field. Your background may include mechanical, electrical, robotics, controls, field service, or programming experience.

You’ll need strong mechanical aptitude, with the ability to repair or replace components confidently. A good understanding of PLC communications and robotic peripheral equipment is essential. Clear and professional communication in English—both written and verbal—is a must, along with proficiency in MS Office. As this role involves regular travel, a full UK driving license is required.

 Competence and experience

We’re especially interested in candidates with hands-on experience in Robotics, PLC’s and hydraulic systems. A strong foundation in electronics and mechanics is highly valued—particularly when it comes to troubleshooting, repairing and servicing across these systems.

Familiarity with Siemens PLC (TIA/Step7) and ABB industrial robots will give you a strong advantage in this role.
